Prior to starting her own boutique practice, she worked for four years as a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society Juvenile Rights Division –Bronx, where she represented abused and neglected children, PINS, and children in juvenile delinquency proceedings. She also worked for two years as a senior attorney for Magovern and Scalafani, representing foster care agencies in a diverse array of issues, such as in prosecuting Termination of Parental Rights Hearings and Foster Children Permanency Hearings.
Mrs. Balahtsis has devoted almost 100% of her legal practice to matrimonial and family law. She also represents families in matters related to Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJ).
Zoi is a counsel at the Law Offices of Deana Balahtsis. Her admittance to the New York Bar Association is pending.
She obtained her Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) from Columbia Law School with a concentration in international law. She also obtained a Master of Laws from the Law Faculty, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a law degree from Department of Law, Democritus University of Thrace.
Before joining the Balahtsis law firm, Zoi worked as an associate at Theoktristos Piperopoulos and Partners Law Office and as a trainee lawyer at Lex Legal Services in Greece. She is admitted to practice law in Greece since 2013 and she has represented a big variety of clients before courts and administrative authorities.
Zoi has also worked as legal intern for various international and national organizations, including the United Nations, the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, the Human Rights Commission of the State of Yucatan and the Earth Charter Initiative.
She speaks Greek and French.
